Lake Elsinore National

This past weekend was the 12th and final round of the outdoor motocross series at Lake Elsinore Motocross park. I was looking forward to going out there for the last time for the year and trying to learn for next year and see where my speed was at. After taking a lot of time off with my injury and only being back on the bike for a couple weeks, I felt these races were needed for myself heading into next year to learn and know what I need to work on.

Raceday started out well as I rode well in qualifying and ended up qualifying 26th. The track was super muddy and one lined in practice, and I knew the track would come around more for the motos. I felt like I still had some more in me as well and was looking forward to the motos. First moto started out with a pretty good start in 12th place. I was caught off guard by everyone's intensity and how crazy and hard everyone was going the first two laps and was shuffled back a few positions. I tried to pick up my intensity and stay up there; and I did well at it until about half way. I pushed myself beyond what I was ready to do in the beginning and the super hot California day had gotten to me and i had nothing to give for the last half the moto. I went backwards a few more spots before running out of gas after having to roll around the last lap of the moto. I ended the moto in 29th.

Second moto started and I was still exhausted from first moto. I rode around just outside of 20th for just over half the moto before feeling the effects of the heat and started to lose focus and get light headed. I pulled off and called it a day ending the moto in 31st.

Overall it was a rough weekend for me, I have some work to do on my fitness, and need to get back to where I was before getting hurt. This offseason should be good and I am ready to put in the work and come out swinging in 2014!

See you at the track soon,
Austin Burns #416
