Dylan Perkins Mini Open

This past weekend was the Dylan Perkins Mini Open which was a memorial race for a fellow Arizona motocross kid that passed away a couple years ago. I was looking forward to the race and a good turnout. When i arrived, the track was looking good, and I was looking forward to racing and getting back behind the gate again.

Saturday was 250 class, and I have been riding sx for the past few weeks on my 250 so I ended up having to race with my sx suspension. Let me tell you, that stuff does not work too well when the track starts to get hard packed and rougher during second mottos haha. Overall the day went well tho, first moto I had an awesome start and got the holeshot and rode a good race from start to finish. The second moto, I got off to a second place start and was struggling a little with the suspension and was super hard to push as the bike would react weird and was hard to turn. I was in second trying to pressure the leader for about 3 laps. I made a mistake and lost a little bit of time before the guy made a mistake and I was able to capitalize for the pass and lead the las couple laps to win both mottos.

Sunday was the open pro class, and with a pretty good pro purse, a lot a people were expected to show up. We ended up having 22 pros show up for the race, and I was looking forward to doing battle with everyone. The first moto started out well with a second place start and I moved into the lead on the first lap. I was able to put my head down and charge the whole 20 minute plus 2 lap moto and pull out a pretty big lead. I knew going into second moto that I needed to get another good start and ride the way I did first moto. Unfortunately I didn't get the best of starts and came out about 6th, I was able to pass a bunch of dudes the first lap and moved into second by the end of the lap. I was then able to catch up to the rear tire of the leader within the next lap and was trying to make the pass right away and get out front as soon as I could. I was a little too impatient and tried to make a pass in a dumb spot and jumped up next to him coming into a tight corner, he was able to block my line and I jumped in back behind him, but my angle sucked coming into the turn and my front tire slid and then caught a breaking bump and threw my over the bars. I hit my head pretty hard and somehow hit my nose and might've broke it. I feel like I got hit by a truck and am pretty sore, but hopefully be back on the bike this week and get back to training and getting ready for A1.

See everyone at the track soon,
Austin Burns #416
