This past weekend was the second round for the west coast supercross. We were in my hometown on phoenix, AZ. I was excited for the weekend, and looking forward to racing in front of all my friends and family.
The week leading up to phoenix didn't start out so well as I had a huge crash in practice on tuesday. I was super sore going into the weekend, but luckily was able to ride press day both thursday and friday to try and loosen up and get back on the bike after the crash.
Saturday morning started out with track walk, and I thought the track was going to be fun and technical. I started out slow in practice and took a little bit of time to get going, I was struggling in the whoops and that was really hurting my lap time in the first practice. I was able to go back and watch some film and figure out what I needed to do for the final practice. I went out and was able to better my time and ended up qualifying in 26th for the night show. I knew I had to pick it up a little bit and had more in me, but I was just ready to get to racing.
The night show started for me in heat 1, as I got off to a decent start and was able to come out inside the top ten after the first couple corners. Then one guy rolled a triple in front of me first lap and I ended up having to roll it as well losing a few positions and was outside the top ten. I went to work quickly and made a bunch of passes the first lap. I was able to work my way into 8th place and was in qualifying position. I then unfortunately made a mistake in the whoops and allowed one guy to the inside of me who took me super high and allowed another guy to get passed me as well and knock me out of the top nine qualifying position. I ended up finishing the heat in 10th and was sent to the lcq.
I was pretty pissed at myself going into the lcq and was able to use that to get off to a good start, I was sitting in fourth place the first lap and was in qualifying position, and then a red flag came out for a downed rider. We restarted the race, and this time I was able to get an even better start and came out second. I rode the rest of the lcq in second and was able to transfer into the main.
I started out the main with a terrible start from way outside, but knew that I would be good for the 15 laps, and immediately went to work trying to make passes. I was able to get past quite a few guys and got into a pace and just stayed in my pace and tried to ride my own race. I passed a couple more people, and also a couple people went down and by then end of the race I was able to work my way up to 13th which is where I ended up finishing for the night.
I was happy with my results for my first main, and I know what I need to work on for the rest of the season. I just want to use this as a building block and keep the momentum rolling for the rest of the season.

Dylan Perkins Mini Open
This past weekend was the Dylan Perkins Mini Open which was a memorial race for a fellow Arizona motocross kid that passed away a couple years ago. I was looking forward to the race and a good turnout. When i arrived, the track was looking good, and I was looking forward to racing and getting back behind the gate again.
Saturday was 250 class, and I have been riding sx for the past few weeks on my 250 so I ended up having to race with my sx suspension. Let me tell you, that stuff does not work too well when the track starts to get hard packed and rougher during second mottos haha. Overall the day went well tho, first moto I had an awesome start and got the holeshot and rode a good race from start to finish. The second moto, I got off to a second place start and was struggling a little with the suspension and was super hard to push as the bike would react weird and was hard to turn. I was in second trying to pressure the leader for about 3 laps. I made a mistake and lost a little bit of time before the guy made a mistake and I was able to capitalize for the pass and lead the las couple laps to win both mottos.
Sunday was the open pro class, and with a pretty good pro purse, a lot a people were expected to show up. We ended up having 22 pros show up for the race, and I was looking forward to doing battle with everyone. The first moto started out well with a second place start and I moved into the lead on the first lap. I was able to put my head down and charge the whole 20 minute plus 2 lap moto and pull out a pretty big lead. I knew going into second moto that I needed to get another good start and ride the way I did first moto. Unfortunately I didn't get the best of starts and came out about 6th, I was able to pass a bunch of dudes the first lap and moved into second by the end of the lap. I was then able to catch up to the rear tire of the leader within the next lap and was trying to make the pass right away and get out front as soon as I could. I was a little too impatient and tried to make a pass in a dumb spot and jumped up next to him coming into a tight corner, he was able to block my line and I jumped in back behind him, but my angle sucked coming into the turn and my front tire slid and then caught a breaking bump and threw my over the bars. I hit my head pretty hard and somehow hit my nose and might've broke it. I feel like I got hit by a truck and am pretty sore, but hopefully be back on the bike this week and get back to training and getting ready for A1.
See everyone at the track soon,

Lake Elsinore National
This past weekend was the 12th and final round of the outdoor motocross series at Lake Elsinore Motocross park. I was looking forward to going out there for the last time for the year and trying to learn for next year and see where my speed was at. After taking a lot of time off with my injury and only being back on the bike for a couple weeks, I felt these races were needed for myself heading into next year to learn and know what I need to work on.
Raceday started out well as I rode well in qualifying and ended up qualifying 26th. The track was super muddy and one lined in practice, and I knew the track would come around more for the motos. I felt like I still had some more in me as well and was looking forward to the motos. First moto started out with a pretty good start in 12th place. I was caught off guard by everyone's intensity and how crazy and hard everyone was going the first two laps and was shuffled back a few positions. I tried to pick up my intensity and stay up there; and I did well at it until about half way. I pushed myself beyond what I was ready to do in the beginning and the super hot California day had gotten to me and i had nothing to give for the last half the moto. I went backwards a few more spots before running out of gas after having to roll around the last lap of the moto. I ended the moto in 29th.
Second moto started and I was still exhausted from first moto. I rode around just outside of 20th for just over half the moto before feeling the effects of the heat and started to lose focus and get light headed. I pulled off and called it a day ending the moto in 31st.
Overall it was a rough weekend for me, I have some work to do on my fitness, and need to get back to where I was before getting hurt. This offseason should be good and I am ready to put in the work and come out swinging in 2014!

Utah National
This past weekend was the first ever Utah national at Miller Motorsports Park. It had been awhile since I have been behind a starting gate, and with only riding 5 times since my injury before the weekend, I was staying optimistic on how things were going to go. I was feeling good on the bike and was looking forward to getting out there and doing battle.
The facility in Utah was amazing, the place was super nice and made things easy on all the riders with everything they had to offer for us. The track was looking good, and it was crazy to hear how much work and effort went into building the mega track. I was looking forward to getting out there and riding.
Practice started out decent for me in the first practice, I thought the track was fun; but struggled a little bit with adapting to the different track conditions and the different surfaces that made up the track. I rode a little tight, but knew what I needed to do in the second practice. The second practice I felt like a rode better and was feeling good on the track, but still didn't throw down a great time as there were about 15 of us within the same range for qualifying and my time happened to be on the lower end of that second. I still made it into the motos qualifying 34th, and was looking forward to the racing.
First moto didn't start out very well as I completely messed up my start and came out 38th. I was able to make a few passes early, and then I kind of settled into a pace for awhile. I started to catch the group in front of me with about 10 minutes to go before I crashed and it took all the wind out of me and took every ounce of energy I had after I got going. I finished out the moto where I was and was able to end up with a 25th place finish.
Going into second moto I ate some food and then starting getting an upset stomach. As I was sitting on the line I felt like I was going to throw up. I was hoping it would just go away once I started riding and that everything would be fine. As the second moto started, I got a good start inside the top 15 and then after 2 laps, I had to pull off and ended up throwing up and called it a moto with some sort of sickness. I was pretty bummed to say the least.
Overall the weekend didn't go as I planned, I know I have some things to work on in between races next week, but I am confident I can make some improvements and put in two solid motos next week to finish out the year.

High Point National
As many of you know, the high point national was the last race for the outdoor motocross series a couple weekends ago. I was really looking forward to racing at a new track I had never been to, and had a good week leading up to the race staying at club MX in South Carolina riding and training. I was feeling good and was ready to get the race started.
Unfortunately Mother Nature was going to throw in a wrench for all of us tho as they got a lot of rain the day before the race and the track was going to be extra muddy and slick for the start of the day. First practice didn't start out well as it was super muddy and no real lines around the track. I struggled with setup and with getting comfortable on the track. I made some changes in between practices and felt way better in the second practice. I felt like I was riding good, but unfortunately didn't get enough intensity going and missed out on qualifying by under a second. And qualified 38th.
The lcq started out decent as I was about top ten off the start, I passed a few guys and was working my way up on the first lap. As I was going to pass a rider I lost my front end in some mud and ended up going down and dislocating my shoulder and messing up my leg as well. I have had an MRI already this week and should be getting the results back soon and then should know when I'll be back riding.
Hope to see everyone at the track soon,

Tennessee National
This past weekend was the first ever Tennessee national at Muddy Creek Raceway. I was looking forward to being part of the inaugural event and going out there and racing on a track I had heard so much about but had never raced on. The track looked awesome on Friday after walking it, and had some big jumps and some technical sections to it as well.
Saturday morning I started out with my first practice, I struggled the whole practice to get a flow and get my rhythm. The track was a mud fest as they watered so much before practices. The ruts were super deep and gnarly. After first practice I was on the bubble for qualifying and needed to better myself for second practice. Second practice started out with me feeling a little better about the track, but unfortunately didn't correspond into a fast lap time and I was forced into the lcq.
The lcq started out decent with my start, I was somewhere around 10 and was passing a few guys before I crashed down a downhill and got hit after crashing and destroyed my foot peg. I was able to get up and I tried to keep pushing all the way, but the race is only 4 laps and although I turned fast lap times after getting going and my foot kept slipping off the foot peg because it was so bent, I wasn't able to pass enough guys and ended up 9th in the lcq and missed the show.
I need to get my stuff together and get in these shows, it's now or ever this weekend in PA.
